Victoria & Abdul is a handsome period drama that struggles to justify itself beyond its premise—decent performances can't quite overcome a meandering script and the mixed critical reception (65% RT, 6.8 IMDb) tells you everything you need to know. Skip it unless you're a completist on either Judi Dench or historical dramas, because there are better ways to spend your evening.
