Skip it—this is a paint-by-numbers period romance that drowns a genuinely weird premise (tulip market speculation as a metaphor for doomed love) in soggy melodrama. Even with Christoph Waltz and Alicia Vikander, the film never justifies why you should care about these characters' affair or their get-rich-quick scheme.

Plot

An artist falls for a married young woman while he's commissioned to paint her portrait. The two invest in the risky tulip market in hopes to build a future together.
