Theorem

1968 · 1h 35m · Mystery, Drama

If you're in the mood for provocative, cerebral European cinema that questions desire and meaning, Pasolini's 'Theorem' is a mesmerizing slow-burn that rewards patient viewers—but skip it if you want plot clarity or conventional drama. This is arthouse through and through, so commit only if you're ready for ambiguity and symbolism.

Plot

A wealthy Italian household is turned upside down when a handsome stranger arrives, seduces every family member and then disappears. Each has an epiphany of sorts, but none can figure out who the seductive visitor was or why he came.

Director: Pier Paolo Pasolini

Cast: Terence Stamp, Silvana Mangano, Massimo Girotti, Anne Wiazemsky, Andrés José Cruz Soublette
