The Unbearable Lightness of Being
1988 · 2h 51m · Drama, Romance
Skip it tonight unless you're in the mood for a slow, philosophical meditation on love and commitment—this Kundera adaptation is intellectually rich but emotionally distant, more interested in exploring ideas than making you *feel* something. If you want romance with actual heat and momentum, save this for when you're ready to sit with ambiguity and existential dread.
Plot
Successful surgeon Tomas leaves Prague for an operation, meets a young photographer named Tereza, and brings her back with him. Tereza is surprised to learn that Tomas is already having an affair with the bohemian Sabina, but when the Soviet invasion occurs, all three flee to Switzerland.
