Skip it tonight unless you've got kids in tow—this is a perfectly fine animated adventure that hits the expected beats but plays it safe and forgettable. The cast (Chris Pratt, Jack Black) does its job, and the Mario nostalgia is there, but you could stream literally any other colorful family film and get the same experience without the corporate video-game tie-in aftertaste.

Plot

While working underground to fix a water main, Brooklyn plumbers—and brothers—Mario and Luigi are transported down a mysterious pipe and wander into a magical new world. But when the brothers are separated, Mario embarks on an epic quest to find Luigi.
