The New Daughter

2009 · 1h 48m · Horror, Thriller

Skip it. 'The New Daughter' combines a tired "creepy burial mound" premise with an uncomfortable puberty-as-horror angle that feels exploitative rather than genuinely unsettling. Even with Kevin Costner in the lead, this 2009 thriller squanders its atmospheric potential and settles for predictable scares.

Plot

John James is a writer; his wife has left him. He moves with his two middle-school children to an isolated house off a dirt road in South Carolina. The property has an Indian burial mound, which fascinates his daughter, Louisa, who's entering puberty.

Director: Luiso Berdejo
