Skip it—this adaptation of Lois Lowry's beloved YA novel plays it safe and emotionally flat, squandering a genuinely thought-provoking premise with heavy-handed execution and Jeff Bridges' sleepy performance. You'd get far more out of rewatching the book or finding a smarter sci-fi drama that actually earns its philosophical weight.
Plot
In a seemingly perfect community, without war, pain, suffering, differences or choice, a young boy is chosen to learn from an elderly man about the true pain and pleasure of the "real" world.
