Skip it—this 2008 remake strips away the philosophical depth of the 1951 original and reduces the alien visitor concept to heavy-handed climate-change preaching. Keanu Reeves sleepwalks through a paint-by-numbers plot that mistakes eco-anxiety for genuine sci-fi intrigue, and the film never justifies why you should care about either Klaatu's mission or humanity's fate.

Plot

A representative of an alien race that went through drastic evolution to survive its own climate change, Klaatu comes to Earth to assess whether humanity can prevent the environmental damage they have inflicted on their own planet. When barred from speaking to the United Nations, he decides humankind shall be exterminated so the planet can survive.
