The Bookshop has heart and a charming premise, but the critics can't quite agree it lands—and frankly, the mediocre scores suggest it's more quaint than compelling. Skip it tonight unless you're specifically in the mood for gentle, understated period drama that plays it safe.
Plot
Set in a small English town in 1959, a woman decides, against polite but ruthless local opposition, to open a bookshop, a decision which becomes a political minefield.
