The Beast of the City is a solid Golden Age crime drama with enough grit and intrigue to hold your attention, but the middling scores suggest it's not essential viewing. Watch it tonight if you're a film noir completist or have a soft spot for early '30s gangster flicks—otherwise, there are sharper crime dramas worth your time.
