Teotihuacan: city of gods

· 1h 0m · Documentary

Watch it tonight if you're fascinated by ancient civilizations and unsolved historical mysteries—this doc tackles one of archaeology's most intriguing riddles with a compelling subject matter. Skip it if you need flashy production or narrative drama; documentaries about archaeological enigmas live or die by how engaging they make the mystery itself, and without critic scores, there's real risk this one plays it too dry.

Plot

Countless mysteries enshroud the ancient culture of Teotihuacán, a pre-Spanish civilization in the Mexican highlands that began to develop around 200 B.C. Village communities soon melded into an enormous urban sprawl, spanning 20 km2 and hallmarked by monolithic, precisely-constructed pyramids. By the mid-700s, however, the city experienced a catastrophic collapse - leaving scant clues about the people, language and written communication of this mysterious community.
