Ring 2

1999 · 1h 35m · Horror, Mystery, Science Fiction

Skip it unless you're a hardcore Ring franchise completist—Ring 2 is a by-the-numbers sequel that rehashes the original's premise without adding much bite. The idea of Yoichi developing psychic powers has potential, but the film bogs itself down in repetitive scares and muddy mythology that dilutes what made the first film genuinely unsettling.

Plot

While investigating the horrifying death of her boyfriend, Mai Takano learns about a videotape haunted by the spirit of a disturbing girl named Sadako, which kills anyone who watches it exactly one week later. When her boyfriend’s son, Yoichi, starts to develop the same psychic abilities as Sadako, Takano must find a way to keep the boy and herself from becoming the next victims.

Director: Hideo Nakata
