Skip it unless you're a Pokémon devotee or have kids to entertain—this is a competent but forgettable live-action adaptation that plays it safe with the source material and never quite justifies its own existence. Ryan Reynolds' wisecracking Pikachu can't quite save a paint-by-numbers detective plot that feels stretched too thin over two hours.
