Skip it tonight unless you're in the mood for heavy-handed emotional drama that relies on a feel-good animal subplot to carry a story about family trauma. It's the kind of movie that mistakes sentimentality for depth, and while Naomi Watts gives it her all, the heartwarming magpie angle can't quite save it from being predictable and occasionally saccharine.
Plot
When an unlikely ally enters the Bloom family's world in the form of an injured baby magpie they name Penguin, the bird’s arrival makes a profound difference in the struggling family’s life.
