Skip it tonight unless you're in the mood for a bloated, melodramatic retelling of a genuine historical tragedy. Michael Bay's 2001 film drowns a compelling premise (the Pearl Harbor attack) in a clunky love triangle that robs the story of its urgency, and it's bloated at nearly 3 hours for what should be a tighter, grittier war film.

Plot

The lifelong friendship between Rafe McCawley and Danny Walker is put to the ultimate test when the two ace fighter pilots become entangled in a love triangle with beautiful Naval nurse Evelyn Johnson. But the rivalry between the friends-turned-foes is immediately put on hold when they find themselves at the center of Japan's devastating attack on Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941.
