Skip it. While the premise of using humor to humanize medicine sounds heartwarming, Patch Adams is schmaltzy Oscar-bait that swings wildly between broad comedy and heavy-handed sentimentality, landing squarely in the emotional manipulation zone rather than genuine inspiration. You'll find better feel-good movies that actually earn their emotional beats without resorting to this much calculated tugging at your heartstrings.

Plot

The true story of Dr. Hunter "Patch" Adams, who in the 1970s found that humor is the best medicine, and was willing to do just anything to make his patients laugh—even if it meant risking his own career.
