One Missed Call

2003 · 1h 52m · Horror, Mystery, Fantasy

One Missed Call has a genuinely creepy premise—getting voicemails from your own death is the kind of high-concept horror hook that grabs you—but this 2008 American remake suffers from muddled execution and a convoluted plot that collapses under its own mystery-box logic. Skip it unless you're a completist for J-horror remakes, and even then, seek out the far superior 2003 Japanese original instead.

Plot

People mysteriously start receiving voicemail messages from their future selves, in the form of the sound of them reacting to their own violent deaths, along with the exact date and time of their future death, listed on the message log. The plot thickens as the surviving characters pursue the answers to this mystery which could save their lives.
