One Can Only Hope And Wonder

· 0h 16m · Drama

Skip it—this experimental Nigerian art film about Benin restitution is conceptually intriguing but sounds more like a gallery installation than a narrative you can sink into on a Tuesday night. Without critical backing or a recognizable cast to anchor you, you're taking a real gamble on whether the artistic merit will actually translate to compelling viewing.

Plot

One Can Only Hope And Wonder is a narrative film inspired by real-life events in connection with the stolen artworks in the Benin expedition of 1897, the ongoing topic of restitution in the art world, and how the works of artists are perceived. The Critics Company is a Nigerian artist group formed in Kaduna in 2015, consisting of Godwin Gaza Josiah, Victor Josiah, Raymond Yusuff, Richard Yusuff, and Ronald Yusuff. For their very first exhibition, the group has created a new work especially for ZOLLAMTMMK.
