Skip it unless you're a die-hard Mortal Kombat fan or just need mindless action noise. The 2021 film is a soulless CGI slog that ditches the arcade game's campy charm for grim, exposition-heavy storytelling and a lead character (Cole Young) invented just for this movie—a recipe for disaster.

Plot

Washed-up MMA fighter Cole Young, unaware of his heritage, and hunted by Emperor Shang Tsung's best warrior, Sub-Zero, seeks out and trains with Earth's greatest champions as he prepares to stand against the enemies of Outworld in a high stakes battle for the universe.
