Lost City of Gold

Plot

This revelatory documentary special follows local and international archaeologists in Zimbabwe as they embark on a new excavation at a huge ancient ghost city. Known as Great Zimbabwe, it was once home to 20,000 people. It’s filled with gold and treasures from across the world. But five centuries ago, it was abandoned. Now, for the first time, the bones of its people are emerging, and experts are seeking to uncover who built this once great metropolis, why it failed, and why its story was seemingly erased from the record. With exclusive access, golden discoveries, hidden treasures, forensic analysis, and major revelations, Lost City of Gold uncovers a whole new understanding of a forgotten pre-colonial superpower - and how colonialism wiped it from history.
