Lolita

1962 · 2h 34m · Drama

IMDb 7.5 Metacritic 79 RT 89%

Kubrick's 1962 adaptation is a masterclass in psychological tension and unreliable narration, with James Mason delivering a chilling performance that exposes the ugliness beneath Humbert's self-deception. The strong critical scores reflect a genuinely important film, but fair warning: it's deliberately uncomfortable and morally murky in ways that demand emotional maturity from viewers. Watch it if you want cinema that challenges and disturbs you—skip it if you need something lighter.

Plot

Humbert Humbert is a middle-aged British novelist who is both appalled by and attracted to the vulgarity of American culture. When he comes to stay at the boarding house run by Charlotte Haze, he soon becomes obsessed with Lolita, the woman's teenaged daughter.
