Skip it unless you're a die-hard anime romantic—this visually gorgeous but narratively thin film gets bogged down in its own philosophical premise about fireworks and never quite justifies the journey. The beautiful animation can't save what amounts to a pretty-looking slog through predictable teenage melodrama.

Plot

Moshimo, Japan. The annual fireworks festival is about to take place and a group of schoolboys, arguing over whether they are round or flat when viewed from different angles, set out to find it out.
