'Drop' sounds like a gimmicky thriller that mistakes phone notifications for genuine suspense—the premise of anonymous texts terrorizing a woman on a date has been done to death, and there's no indication this takes the concept anywhere fresh or clever. Without critical backing or a name-brand director to justify the risk, you're better off rewatching a thriller that actually earned its scares.

Plot

Violet, a widowed mother on her first date in years, arrives at an upscale restaurant where she is relieved that her date, Henry, is more charming and handsome than she expected. But their chemistry begins to curdle as Violet begins being irritated and then terrorized by a series of anonymous drops to her phone.
