Skip it unless you're a die-hard Nicholas Sparks adaptation completist. This 2010 romance hits every predictable military-romance beat—the meet-cute, the long-distance letters, the inevitable heartbreak—with the subtlety of a Hallmark card. You've seen this exact movie before, probably better.
Plot
While Sergeant John Tyree is home on two weeks leave from Germany, he meets Savannah after he dives into the ocean to retrieve Savannah's purse that had fallen off a pier. John eventually falls in love with Savannah, who promises to write to him until he returns from overseas.
