Skip it. 'Dead Man's Wire' is a obscure true-crime thriller with an intriguing hostage premise, but it's an obscure 1978 TV movie that never cracked the cultural zeitgeist for a reason—uninspired direction and cardboard characters undercut what could've been a tense cat-and-mouse game. Watch 'Dog Day Afternoon' instead if you want real stakes.

Plot

In 1977, former real estate developer Tony Kiritsis puts a dead man's switch on himself and the mortgage banker who did him wrong, demanding $5 million and a personal apology.
