Skip it unless you're a Neil Jordan completist or vampire lore obsessive. Byzantium has an intriguing premise and strong cast (Saoirse Ronan, Gemma Arterton), but it's a meandering, self-serious slog that mistakes atmospheric dread for actual tension—you'll be checking your phone by the halfway mark.

Plot

Residents of a coastal town learn, with deadly consequences, the secret shared by the two mysterious women who have sought refuge at a local boarding house, the Byzantium.
