Skip it unless you're in the mood for a melodramatic 80s tearjerker—this Bette Midler vehicle is schmaltzy and dated, leaning hard on the "one rich, one poor" dynamic that's been done to death. If you want genuine chemistry and character depth, spend your night elsewhere.

A privileged rich debutante and a cynical struggling entertainer share a turbulent, but strong childhood friendship over the years.
